Aspen Nurse / Health
Welcome to the Aspen Elementary School Nurse web site. I look forward to working with you as we strive to help our school stay healthy and safe. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Some general information follows.
Reporting An Absence
When your child is absent due to an illness, you must notify the school secretaries or the nurse’s office with specific symptoms. Students must be fever free without fever reducing medication before returning to school. A temperature of 100 degrees or greater is considered a fever. If your child will be absent because of a vacation or other known event, please write a note or send an email to the nurse or office.
Health Requirements
H.E.L.P.S. : A physical examination with up to date immunizations are required for entrance into the H.E.L.P.S. program.
Kindergarten: A physical examination with up to date immunizations, a vision exam, and a dental exam are required for entrance into kindergarten.
Second Grade: A dental examination is required for second grade.
Allergies
Due to the life threatening nature of nut allergies, no foods with nuts, nut products, or nut warnings are allowed in the classroom. No home baked or baked items from a store or bakery are permitted in the classroom due to the risk of cross contamination of foods baked with nuts. Foods with nuts or nut products are allowed in the cafeteria for lunch because a nut free table is provided for children with nut allergies.
Medications at School
All medications, including over the counter medications like Tylenol or advil, require a doctor’s order and a parent signature. The Medication Administration form can be downloaded from this site. Medication must be kept in the original container and be clearly labeled.
