Mrs. Wysong's Classroom Notes
Parent/Teacher Conferences - November 10, 2008
Today, your child will be receiving a letter to bring home about our upcoming parent/teacher conferences. It is on pink paper and is attached to a questionnaire. If you signed up for a conference at Back-To-School-Night, your chosen date and time is indicated on the questionnaire. If you didn't sign up that night, I have chosen an available date and time for you. Please call me at your earliest convenience if your conference time needs to be changed, and we will reschedule. I look forward to meeting with you soon.
Standards Based Grading - September 22, 2008
By now most of you are familiar with the new standards-based report cards that began last year when your student was in 3rd grade. This reporting system closely parallels the system used by the State of Illinois with the state assessments, more commonly known as the ISAT tests. Your fourth grader will have the same grading system used this year as well. For academic work, this numbered system is described below:
4 - Exceeds Grade Level Standards - the work demonstrates in-depth inferences and/or applications that go beyond what was
taught in class; shows a high level of knowledge, understanding, or skill
3 - Meets Grade Level Standards - the work shows understanding and knowledge that meets expectations for the grade level;
includes both simpler and complex ideas and processes that were explicitly taught in class
Welcoming A New School Year - September 1, 2008
It feels wonderful to start another school year! Like each student enjoys a brand new box of crayons, teachers enjoy starting a fresh new year. In the first week of school, we concentrate on building new relationships, organizing lockers, desks, and school supplies, and establishing classroom routines and procedures. Our class's first week ran smoothly and we are all looking forward to a great school year.
Parents are invited to attend Aspen School's parent night tomorrow night, September 2nd at 7 p.m. This is an adult night only. Hope to see you!
