Aspen Elementary School

The children have just started a wonderful research project in the classroom. Each child has picked an animal of interest. They are using non-fiction books to search for information. Right now they are becoming the experts and taking notes on the new information. Eventually, we will use the Internet and the encyclopedia to find all the facts needed. They will each have a chance to create 2 final products before they present to the classroom. They are off to a great start!

I am so proud of the children that have completed their test on Book Adventure for October. Please remember we are trying to read chapter books for their monthly goal. This has been an amazing week for our second grade students. We have had the opportunity to take a walking field trip to Townline Elementary School on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On the first day, we experienced the opening ceremonies. The monks put on a wonderful performance. On the next day, we watched them create the most beautiful mandala that we have ever seen. They were so patient and talented. We were all amazed. Lastly, we went back for the closing ceremony. Please ask your child all about this memory making experience.

I am so excited about this school year. We are off to a great start. The children have been working and creating a variety of things for the classroom. It has been such a pleasure getting to know them already. I am certain we will be participating in great learning throughout the year.

The children have just started to learn more details about our world. We started with town, moved to state, then to country, next continent, and finally the world. We went to a wonderful website called Google Earth. (www.googleearth.com) We visited a variety of locations. I highly recommend spending time on this site.

We are trying to master the location and the names of the 7 continents and the 4 oceans. Please take time and share information that you know about our world.
