Ms. Hurst's Classroom Notes
Welcome back to my Classroom!
At Aspen we do running records for the 1st month of school, so that we know what skill level your child is at entering their new grade. As of Monday the 15th of September we will begin "guided reading," and this is where every child is put into a specific group for reading according to their literary needs.
Anyone who has qualified as an English Language Learner will join me in my classroom during this time. Within my room, I have a research-based program that supports your child with extra vocabulary enrichment and phonemic awareness. We also incorporate syntax and sentence structure into your child's reading program; which can be challenging when you are a English Language Learner.
The school has purchased the program to allow me to move them to any level from K-5th grade. Many parents have concerns that their child will not be taught at the child's grade level; however every child during guided reading is taught at that child's specific ability level including the children in my classroom. Our first step starting Monday will be to take a reading test in order to find the correct level in my researched-based program for each child's individual needs!
