The Basics of Choice Theory - Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 7:00 p.m.

Join us from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Aspen's Cafeteria to learn about Choice Theory and various Parenting Strategies using Choice Theory to create a happier, more peaceful home!

Aspen’s Family Partnership Council (“The Council”)

The Council was created over five years ago to provide opportunities for parent involvement at school, to offer family events to enhance our sense of community and build relationships, and to educate parents on the school’s philosophy (Choice Theory). Get involved today! If you did not get a chance to sign-up to volunteer at Aspen’s back-to-school events, please feel free to download the Council's Volunteer Application Form HERE or contact the Council Co-Chairs, Nicole Carson or Rula Mansour for more information or to volunteer.

Choice Time Team: This team provides varying activities for our 1st-5th grade students during their recess time between December 1, 2008 and March 27, 2009. Volunteers supervise indoor recess activities of their choice or that of their child. You can volunteer once a week, once a month or as often as you'd like for as many recess periods as you are available. To sign up, download the Choice Time Volunteer Form HERE or from the Event Forms link to the left, and return your completed form to school with your child.

Parent Education Team: This team teaches parents Aspen’s Philosophy (Choice Theory) through presentations and interactive exercises taught by teachers, staff, our principal and parents. We need help planning and staffing events. Volunteers do not need to know anything about Choice Theory to help organize meetings. Back by popular demand, we will offer our Second Annual Family University in February 21, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Stay posted for more information.

Principal’s Helpers: This team assists the principal by organizing student birthday cards & invitations to a monthly birthday breakfast with the principal. This can be done from home!

Social Team: This team plans school wide events throughout the year to provide opportunities for students and families to connect outside the school day. Currently scheduled for this school year: September 19, 2008 (Family Night), November 4, 2008 (Family Breakfast), January 23, 2009 (Family Dance), March 13, 2009 (Family Night) & April 17, 2009 (Family Night). Previous examples of family night activities include: magicians, a mime troupe, ice cream socials and more.

Welcome Wagon: This team contacts new parents in August and periodically throughout the year to welcome new families to Aspen and provide information about Aspen events. If you are interested in volunteering, look for information and sign-ups in the spring of 2009.
