November, 2008

The school year is already zooming by, it's already November! I have been busy meeting with students, screening students, testing, and contacting parents to update skills as much as possible. I always welcome your calls if I don't get to you first. Many of my fourth grade students are learning and using their language skills within the classroom. I am enjoying going into their classrooms and working together with their teachers. I will also be in the third grade classroom to continue our "power up" vocabulary lessons which coordinates with the writing initiative to improve "word choice." How fun it is for me to use what we learn in the speech and language room with the entire class, coordinated with curriculum lessons.

November conferences will be here soon. I will be asking the classroom teachers for your conference time to review our speech and language progress together. Evening conferences are always popular and many of my conferences will overlap. I will call each one of you if I cannot meet with you and your classroom teacher at your requested time. Please call me if you prefer an individual conference. I am always available to meet with you.

Speech folders have gone home with the students practicing individual speech sounds. We are working very hard to establish correct sound production to dismiss by the end of the year. We need your help to review the practice ideas in the folders. Encourage your child to keep the speech folder in their book bag. That way, we will always have it available when we meet at school.

Enjoy the extra hour when we turn our clocks back. Please feel free to call or email me anytime.
