The Zach Tran Memorial Garden
To honor what would have been Zach Tran's last year at Aspen Elementary the fifth graders got their hands dirty in the Zach Tran Memorial Garden, at the front of Aspen School.
Zach's parents and sisters, through The Zach Tran Foundation graciously donated a beautiful red maple tree for the garden. With the support of Architerra, Inc., students designed, selected and helped plant this tree and other beautiful plantings in Zach's memory. Please click on the Activity Pictures link to the left to see some pictures as Zach's friends and classmates remember a wonderful young man who left us too soon.
Olympic Day Was a Success!
Everyone at Aspen was treated to a great day of Olympic spirit and activities. The weather was perfect and the fun quotient was high as hurdles were jumped and tires were rolled. We would all like to thank Mrs. Meiners, Mrs. Sheldon and Mr. Carlsen for all the preparations they made. And, let's not forget the wonderful volunteers who shared their energy so we could all have fun.
Join in by checking out the pictures from Olympic Day in the Activity Pictures link in the column to the left.
Olympic Day is Coming!
Olympic Day at Aspen will be on May 29th. Olympic reminders went home with students today, so please check your child's backpack. This should be a great day of fun and team building for all the Aspen kids.
For further info please check out Mrs. Meiners' webpage under the Classrooms link at the top of this page.
Kids Castle Needs Adult Help on June 7th
Kids' Castle Work Day - June 7
Vernon Hills' own Kids' Castle playground, located in Deerpath Park, needs some very important TLC. The community is planning a spring clean-up at the Castle on Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. until noon. Adult volunteers are very much in need to perform a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks, such as sealing wood, raking wood chips, tightening swings, checking bolts, and generally cleaning up the site for a busy summer. While trained park district maintenance personnel will be on hand to work and provide guidance, at least 25 adult volunteers are needed for a successful effort. To sign up, please call the Vernon Hills Park District at 847-996-6800. Volunteers are asked to bring basic hand tools (metal rake, shovel, hammer, etc.) if possible and work gloves.
